Torsion Springs

Torsion springs store the movement of energy by twisting the spring in opposing directions using arms extending from either end to apply the forces. We supply Torsion Springs for many different purposes including for hydraulic and pneumatic tool component parts, barrel lifting equipment and skip lids to name a few!

 Material Size
Torsion Springs:Automatic - 0.1 - 1.64mm
Semi auto - 0.1 - 20mm

There when you need us...

Ashfield Springs manufactures hundreds of thousands of Torsion springs to customer requirements each year. If you need Torsion springs to fit your application send in your request now. It is likely that we have made the spring you need before.

Alternatively, if you don't know your exact spring requirements, contact our technical sales team who have many years of experience in aiding our customers in the design of the springs they require. Our customers have come to rely upon Ashfield Springs to provide solutions for them from concept to manufacture. Within our vast capacity, if it can be made, we will make it!

Below is an explanation of the things we need to know in order to make your Torsion springs.

  1. Wire size
  2. Diameter (Spring outside diameter for the main part of the spring)
  3. Material Type (We can source all materials as requested including Carbon, Stainless, Silicon Chrome, Chrome Vanadium and Copper Alloys)
  4. Mandrel size (Usually torsion springs are used over a mandrel shaft or arbor. As a general guide, 10% clearance is suggested. This will dictate the inside diameter of the spring)
  5. Free position of the ends (in degrees)
  6. Expected deflection (in degrees)
  7. Winding direction (either right hand or left hand. These cannot be interchanged as force is applied to torque)
  8. Length of leg ends
  9. Maximum wound position in number of turns or degrees from free position
  10. Number of coils (The number of coils is inversely proportional to the rate in a torsion spring)
  11. Rate (the torque that has to be applied in order to produce a unit deflection in Newton mm per degree)
  12. Leg type (e.g. radial. The more complex leg types increase the cost of the spring)

We have extensive experience in the production of die and flat compression springs for our customers. Please contact us for more information.
