Spring Steel Hose Guards
Ashfield Springs manufactures hose protection springs for use in hydraulic, pneumatic and fluid power applications. Also known as anti-kink springs, hose guard springs or hose springs, these coiled spring guards are fitted over flexible hoses at connection points to prevent kinking, abrasion and fatigue failure at the most vulnerable part of the hose assembly.
As the only UK spring manufacturer with membership of both the British Fluid Power Association (BFPA) and the British Valve and Actuator Association (BVAA), we have a deep understanding of fluid power engineering requirements and the quality standards that procurement teams in this sector demand.
Hose Protection Springs for Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems
Hose protection springs are open-coiled compression springs fitted over flexible hoses at connection points to prevent kinking, abrasion and fatigue failure. By supporting the hose under bending loads and distributing flex stress over a longer length, they prevent sharp bends at end fittings that lead to premature failure. They are particularly important in mobile hydraulic applications, high-pressure systems and wherever hoses are subject to repeated movement or vibration.
Correctly specified hose protection springs reduce the risk of unexpected hose failure, extend hose service life and help procurement teams avoid the cost and downtime of unplanned replacement.
Hose Spring Specification: Matched to Your Hose Assembly
We manufacture hose protection springs to customer specifications, precisely matched to the hose outer diameter, fitting dimensions, and operating environment of your application. They can be manufactured with plain open ends or close coiled sections to fit over flanges or other fittings. Key parameters include wire diameter, coil outer diameter, free length, pitch and material grade.
Springs are available in stainless steel for corrosive or washdown environments, and in carbon steel with appropriate protective finishes for standard hydraulic and industrial applications. Our technical team can advise on the correct specification for your hose assembly if you do not yet have a formal drawing.
Materials and Finishes
Stainless steel (302, 304, 316 and other grades) for corrosion resistance
Carbon steel with zinc plating, delta tone or delta seal for standard industrial use
Alloy steel for elevated temperature or high-fatigue applications
As with all of our springs, finishes are selected to match the environmental and operational demands of your application. We supply springs shot-peened or vibratory deburred, as required.
